1st Vice President - Profile

Catherine Edwards was elected in 2018 to serve as 6th Vice President on Tlingit & Haida's Executive Council. Her Tlingit name is Kashkaani and she is Raven of the L’eneidi (Dog Salmon) clan. Catherine has served as a Seattle T&H Delegate since 2012 and currently serves as Chair of Tlingit & Haida's Audit Committee and on the Executive Committee for the T&H Washington Chapter.

Catherine has extensive experience in tribal governance, budgets and other issues important to the Tlingit & Haida community. She has worked in critical subject areas and as a result understands the programs and needs of the community. She has worked with the Indian Child Welfare Act cases, 477 and Temporary Aid for Needy Families (TANF). These programs go to the very essence of providing culturally appropriate approaches to our community to be effective and are highly technical.  Catherine understands how these programs work, inadequacies of the federal regulatory scheme and has ideas for improvement.  She is able to articulate these thoughts for numerous audience types—from users of these programs to legislators.

Catherine has a strong commitment to serving the needs of tribal families and youth. Her work experience in combination with her values, allows her to effectively communicate with the public, build and maintain relations, and develop and strategize collaborative opportunities.
